How eBay fees are calculated
eBay charges sellers a final value fee when an item sells, published oneBay’s official selling-fees page. It has two parts: a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus a fixed per-order fee. The total amount of the sale is not just your item price — it includes handling, the shipping the buyer paid, sales tax, and other applicable fees. Payment processing is included; there is no separate processor charge.
| Component | Rule |
|---|---|
| Final value fee | Category % of total sale amount (per item), tiered above a threshold in some categories |
| Per-order fee | $0.30 if the order is $10.00 or less, $0.40 if over $10.00 |
| Insertion fee | 250 free listings/month, then $0.35 in most categories |
2026 fee rates by category
Rates from eBay’s published schedule (non-store sellers):
| Category | Rate |
|---|---|
| Most categories | 13.6% up to $7,500 per item; 2.35% on the portion over $7,500 |
| Books, Movies, Music | 15.3% up to $7,500; 2.35% over |
| Coins & Paper Money (non-bullion) | 13.25% up to $7,500; 2.35% over |
| Select collectibles & trading cards | 13.25% up to $7,500; 2.35% over |
| Women’s Handbags | 15% if total ≤ $2,000; 9% on the whole amount if over |
| Jewelry (excl. watches) | 15% if total ≤ $5,000; 9% on the whole amount if over |
| Watches, Parts & Accessories | 15% to $1,000; 6.5% from $1,000–7,500; 3% over $7,500 |
| Guitars & Basses | 6.7% up to $7,500; 2.35% over (free insertion) |
| Athletic sneakers | 8% flat with no per-order fee if the sale is $150+; standard 13.6% below $150 |
| NFT categories | 5% flat |
Note the two different tier styles: in “most categories” the lower rate applies only to theportion above the threshold, but for handbags and jewelry the single rate that matches your total applies to the whole amount. Watches use a true three-bracket schedule. This calculator implements each style per eBay’s published wording.
Worked example (from eBay's own fee page)
eBay’s help page works through a $424 sale in a standard category with one listing past the free allocation: final value fee = 13.6% × $424 + $0.40 = $58.06, plus the $0.35 insertion fee, for $58.41 total — an effective rate of about 13.8%. This calculator reproduces that example exactly.
What actually eats your margin
Three things surprise new sellers. First, fees apply to shipping: if you charge the buyer $8 shipping on a $30 item, you pay 13.6% of $38, not $30. Second, theper-order fee hits small sales hardest — on a $5 sale, $0.30 plus 13.6% is an effective rate near 20%. Third, optional costs stack: promoted listings (a percentage you bid), store subscriptions, and listing upgrades are all on top of the base schedule. If your account falls to Below Standard, eBay adds 6 percentage points to final value fees — a direct quality penalty.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does eBay take from a $100 sale?
In most categories, eBay's final value fee on a $100 sale is $14.00: 13.6% of the total amount of the sale ($13.60) plus the $0.40 per-order fee. Remember the percentage applies to the item price plus shipping charged to the buyer and sales tax, so if the buyer paid $100 for the item and $10 shipping, the fee is 13.6% of $110 + $0.40 = $15.36.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes. eBay's final value fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax, and other applicable fees. This is why calculating the fee on the item price alone underestimates what you will pay.
What is the per-order fee?
On top of the percentage, eBay charges a fixed fee per order: $0.30 for orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 for orders over $10.00. An order is defined as the items purchased by the same buyer at checkout with the same shipping method.
Are there listing (insertion) fees?
Most sellers get 250 zero-insertion-fee listings per month. After that, each listing in most categories costs $0.35. Some categories differ — guitars and basses have free insertion, and select heavy-equipment categories charge $20 per listing.
Do payment processing fees get charged separately?
No. eBay states that with managed payments there are no separate third-party payment processing fees — payment processing is built into the final value fee. This is different from platforms where a payment processor like PayPal or Stripe charges its own percentage on top.
What fees does this calculator NOT include?
It covers standard final value fees, the per-order fee, and the $0.35 insertion fee for non-store sellers. It does not include eBay Store subscription rates (which lower some percentages), promoted listings ad fees, the international fee, listing upgrade fees (bold, subtitle), the additional 6-percentage-point surcharge for sellers rated Below Standard, or regulatory operating fees in some categories. Check your seller account for surcharges that apply to you.
